Lost or Stolen Visas

If your passport containing a valid U.S. visa is lost or stolen, please report it right away to the Embassy.  The steps you should take are:

  • File the appropriate report with the police in the jurisdiction where the passport was lost or stolen.
  • Send a copy of the police report to  BogotaVisaPerdida@state.gov with the following information:
    • Last names and first names as they appeared on your passport
    • Date of birth
    • Cédula number
    • Whether the passport was lost or stolen, and how
    • Date of loss
    • Your phone and e-mail contact information

The Embassy cannot reactivate visas reported lost or stolen.  If you recover the passport with the U.S. visa you previously reported lost or stolen, you will not be able to use that visa.

You will need to apply for a new visa if you wish to travel to the United States. If you reapply, you should bring a certification of your entries and exits from Colombia in a sealed envelope to your appointment.  Request this document from the Departamento Administrativo de Seguridad (DAS).
