Senator Reids visits Colombia

A bipartisan delegation of U.S. Senators, led by Majority Leader Senator Harry Reid, visited Colombia on Wednesday, November 28, 2007.  The purpose of their trip was to show the U.S. commitment to strengthening ties to Colombia.  Senators also wanted to investigate first hand Colombia’s security and economic environment in the run up to the vote on the Free Trade Agreement.

The Congress Delegation visited Tecnovo, a USAID supported factory that employs demobilized, displaced, and war victims.  They visited three vocational training workshops (candle-making, woodworking and sewing) and spoke with beneficiaries about their experiences in the program.

Senator Reid and The Delegation met with President Uribe, Fiscal Iguaran and other Colombian Government Ministers, as well as with labor unionists who are not in favor of the Freee Trade Agreement.
