The United States Supports Pepper Crops That Benefit Internally Displaced People in Antioquia and Sucre Departments

With the support of the United Status Agency for International Development-USAID, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Comexa Foods signed on Friday, November 23 a covenant whereby the company agrees to purchase the entire pepper crop grown by the internally displaced people of Antioquia and Sucre, where they work.  The United States’ contribution to this project was close to $1.3 million dollars.

This initiative, the outcome of a successful alliance between the public and private sectors, will benefit 320 internally displaced people from Puerto Nare and Puerto Triunfo in Antioquia and San Onofre in Sucre, and it’s expected to produce 1,840 annual tones worth one million pesos. Comexa Foods is the preferential supplier of pepper for the renowned company Amazon Peppe.

The project, developed by the Reintegration and Community Development Program of the Antioquia and Sucre Departments, includes the financial support of Argos Cement and is supported bye the Presidential Advisory for the Social and Economic Reintegration of Armed People and Groups.
