World Clean Up Day September 15,
In honor of World Clean Up Day September 15, the U.S. Embassy in Bogota and El Proyecto Misión Bogota sponsored a clean-up of the Monserrate pathway. Twenty Embassy volunteers and twenty Misión Bogota volunteers spent three hours cleaning up the path and collected more than 400 pounds of trash.
“The US Embassy is proud to have partnered with Misión Bogota to clean Monserrate. Our efforts helped to clean up one of the most scenic sites in Bogota,” said Juan Carlos Ospina, an Embassy volunteer.
This clean-up was one of five projects in the city and hundreds worldwide in commemoration of World Clean Up Day organized by the United Nations Environment Programme. The purpose of World Clean Up Day is to encourage participation in environmental actives such as walking to work or school, planting trees, and cleaning up local parks and waterways.
Misión Bogota was created in 1998 by the Bogota Mayor’s Office to help provide personal security and build community awareness. Misión Bogota’s focus is in creating public spaces such as parks and libraries, neighborhood watches, recycling projects, and providing assistance to at-risk groups.
