Brian A. Nichols, Chargé d' Affaires, a.i.

Brian Nichols arrived in Bogotá as Deputy Chief of Mission on August 2nd and assumed responsibilities as the new Chargé d' Affaires, a.i., effective August 6, 2007.

Prior to his appointment as DCM Bogota, Brian Nichols served as the Director of the Office of Caribbean Affairs, coordinating U.S. policy toward 14 Caribbean countries.

Previously he served as Counselor for Political Affairs at the American Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Prior to his assignment to Indonesia, he served as First Secretary and Deputy Political Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City from 1998 to 2001. Mr. Nichols has also served as a Consular Officer in Lima, Peru and a Political Officer in El Salvador. He has held several policy level positions in Washington in addition to his overseas assignments.

Recipient of several Department of State awards, Mr. Nichols entered the Foreign Service in 1989 and was promoted into the Senior Foreign Service in 2003. A 1987 graduate of Tufts University, he is married to Foreign Service Officer Geraldine Kam. They have two daughters.
