Colombia launches new Fulbright alumni association

It shall be launched by Ambassador William R. Brownfield and Fulbrigth executive director Ann Mason

Fulbright will be launching a new Colombian alumni association on February 3rd at Ambassador William R. Brownfield’s residence.

Fulbright Community Colombia’s, as the association is called, shall connect its alumni and current scholars through a website specifically tailored to their needs. Through it, they can remain a part of the Fulbright tradition of exchange, remain involved in interactive programs and communicate with other scholars as well as the country’s academic community.

The association hopes to continue inspiring academic and professional development in the country through an active community of highly qualified scholars and alumni.

During the evening the prestigious Fulbright Recognition for Excellence 2008 award shall be presented. This recognition is made annually to an American or Colombian scholar who has been instrumental in the development of the country in his or her field. The winner needs to have shown leadership, dedication to service and academic excellence, bringing together the values of the Fulbright spirit.

On this occasion the award winner is Professor Ramon Fayad, former rector of Colombia’s National University (2005-2006) and currently a professor of Rosario University’s medicine faculty.
