How Have We Done?

Coca cultivation is down by 15% since 2001, from 169,000 hectares to 144,000.

  • Cultivation fell 8% in areas surveyed in both 2004 and 2005.
  • Total area surveyed in 2005 increased by 81%, with an overall increase from 2004 to 2005 from 114,000 hectares to 144,000 hectares - 26% increase overall.

    • Opium poppy cultivation is down by 67% since 2000 (from 7,500 hectares in 2000 to 2,400 in 2004), with no estimate for 2005.

  • Poppy aerial eradication in 2006 was 1,697 hectares.
  • Poppy manual eradication in 2006 was reported as 231 hectares

    • Almost 170,000 hectares of coca sprayed in 2006.

    • Coca eradication is on track for another record year in 2007.
    • Manual eradication of over 40,000 hectares of coca in 2006.

    In 2006, Colombian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Police.

    • Seized 204 MT of cocaine and coca base
    • Destroyed 200 HCl laboratories
    • Seized 475 kilos of heroin
