Citizen Services

Emergencies

American Citizen Services can assist when U.S. citizens in Colombia are arrested, are missing, are victims of violent crime, become ill, die, or where there is otherwise a need for immediate help.  One of our most important roles is to keep family members in the United States apprised of the circumstances, so that they can make necessary decisions about their loved ones and provide financial support.

The Embassy monitors email messages sent to ACSBogota@state.gov from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Colombia time, except for U.S. and Colombian holidays.  In case of an emergency involving a U.S. citizen during those hours, please send an email to that address, being sure to include the word “emergency” in your subject heading.  You should also include a brief description of the situation and a phone number where you can be reached.

Outside of those hours, you can reach an Embassy duty officer by calling (1) 315-0811.  From the United States, the number is 011-57-1-315-0811.  Please do not call the U.S. Consular Agency in Barranquilla directly about an emergency, as that office does not accept phone calls outside of business hours.
