Temporary Visitor for Business or Pleasure

A B-1/B-2 visa is commonly known as a tourist visa, since it the type of nonimmigrant visa used for tourism. The majority of visa applicants at U.S. Embassy Bogota apply for this visa. It is for people who wish to visit the United States temporarily for business or pleasure.

  • Some of the activities permissible on a B-1/B-2 visa are:
  • Going on vacation
  • Visiting family members or friends
  • Attending business meetings
  • Participating in work-related training
  • Performing missionary work

There are no other documents required for a B-1/B-2 visa. However, an  applicant may wish to bring additional documents to the interview that help support his or her overall situation in Colombia and the motive for travel, such as information about their employment, family, or studies.

Visa Validity

B-1/B-2 visas for Colombian citizens are valid for ten years.

Other types of travel: Persons planning to travel to the U.S. for a different purpose such as for study, to participate in an exchange program, seek temporary employment, serve as a crewmember, or journalists reporting on a sporting event, etc., must apply for a different visa in the appropriate category.
