About U.S. History

The capital is Washington, DC.

Daylight savings time begins the first Sunday in April and ends the last Sunday in October. During these months it is one hour earlier across the U.S.

The Department of State handles foreign relations.

The flag has 50 stars (one for each state) and 13 bars (one for each original colony). The colors are those of the British flag, which was used as the basis for the design.

Mail sent to the U.S. must include the zip code; it will arrive sooner if the address is in capital letters, without any punctuationn and with certain official abbreviations.

The national anthem is The Star-Spangled Banner.
